Akshaya Tritiya

May 30 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Significance and History
Akshaya Tritiya, also known as Akha Teej, is one of the most auspicious and widely celebrated Hindu festivals. It typically falls in the month of Vaishakha (April-May), on the third day (Tritiya) of the waxing moon. The word “Akshaya” means “never diminishing” or “eternal,” symbolizing prosperity, success, and good fortune. The festival is considered to bring boundless blessings, wealth, and abundance into one’s life.

According to Hindu mythology, it is believed that on this day, Lord Vishnu’s Vamana avatar (dwarf form) appeared and helped King Bali, and the Pandavas received the divine Akshaya Patra (a never-ending vessel) from Lord Krishna during their exile, which provided them with unlimited food. The day also marks the birth of Lord Parashurama, the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, and is considered a propitious time to begin new ventures, make investments, or buy gold.

In addition to its association with Lord Vishnu, Akshaya Tritiya is believed to be the day when the Treta Yuga began, as per Hindu cosmology, and thus it is seen as an occasion to seek blessings from the divine for spiritual growth, material success, and overall well-being.

What Happens on Akshaya Tritiya:

  • Buying Gold and Jewelry: It is customary to purchase gold, silver, or jewelry on this day, as it is believed that doing so brings long-term prosperity and wealth.
  • Performing Pujas and Rituals: Devotees worship Lord Vishnu, Goddess Lakshmi, and other deities to seek blessings for wealth, health, and success. Special prayers are offered in temples, and many also perform Griha Pooja (household rituals) to bring prosperity to their homes.
  • Charity and Donations: This is also an ideal time for charitable activities, with people donating food, clothes, and money to those in need, believing that doing so multiplies their good fortune.
  • Starting New Ventures: Many people consider Akshaya Tritiya a favorable day to start new business ventures, engage in investments, or embark on new endeavors. It is seen as an auspicious time for taking major financial decisions.
