Ugadi, Gudi Padwa, or Telugu New Year
March 30 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Significance and History
Ugadi (celebrated in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka) and Gudi Padwa (celebrated in Maharashtra and Goa) mark the beginning of the Hindu lunar calendar and the first day of the month Chaitra. Falling between March and April, this festival heralds the arrival of spring, new beginnings, and prosperity. It is a time to honor the creation of the universe by Lord Brahma and the start of a new era of growth and positivity.
The term Ugadi is derived from Sanskrit words: “Yuga” (age or era) and “Adi” (beginning), symbolizing the start of a new age. Similarly, Gudi Padwa derives its name from the traditional Gudi (a decorated pole), hoisted outside homes to symbolize victory and good fortune.
